Thar she blows!
The Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino, British Columbia is perfectly located
for travelers to witness scenes of the longest annual migration of any
mammal in the world, that of the Pacific Gray Whale.
Each year 19,000 - 21,000 of these majestic creatures parade along
the shores by the Inn en route from the calving lagoons of Baja, Mexico
to the Bering Sea. They travel up to 15,000 kilometers (9,500 miles)
annually. Views of spouting whales are common from the Inn and close-up
encounters are breathtaking from marine vessels which offer whale-watching
tours.
The largest concentration of Gray Whales passes through the food-rich
waters and protected bays of the Tofino area from March to mid-May and
many whales remain as residents in Clayoquot Sound all summer,
affording opportunities for sightings right through October.
Guest Service Representatives will book whale-watching
tours or excursions to Hot Springs
Cove (the nearby natural mineral waters) to complement any package.
